In the fifth stage of the series, Stirnu Buks will visit the city of theatre and sculptures by the Gauja River! The largest city in Northern Vidzeme, Valmiera, gains its visual appeal from the Gauja and its steep banks, while its wide recognition comes from its famous theatre and theatre festival.
Valmiera’s identity is shaped by several distinct traits: historical charm radiating from the castle ruins and St. Simon’s Church; a modern atmosphere created by sculptures placed throughout the city; its reputation as the region’s educational hub; and the feel of an industrial metropolis.
All of this will be presented to us by Artis Ločmelis, the legend of Mūsmežs and a true Valmiera patriot!
According to Artis: “The Gauja is Valmiera’s key in all times and all seasons. In truth, Valmiera and the Gauja are one whole — their characters and patterns are the same. The magic of the riverbanks has woven itself into Valmiera’s streets and Stirnu Buks trails. You cannot be a patriot of the city if the Gauja is not in your heart. For us, honour for the jersey is closest, and freedom is our honour.”
This will be a special stage — starting at the Town Hall Square and finishing the Mountain King sprint segment at St. Simon’s Church of Valmiera!
On September 13, all roads will lead to Valmiera! See you there!
