All right, one more time this year! Tērvete, Tukums, Augstroze, Liepāja and Ogre — done and dusted. Some have collected more points over the season, others more kilometers, and some more blisters. But it’s not over yet. Because Priekuļi still awaits!
And if the season finale is taking place in Priekuļi, taking it easy to the finish simply isn’t in our nature. The pursuit is no foreign concept here — it’s practically a local unit of measurement.
Some will have to run. Some will have to chase. Some will need to defend everything they have earned over the season. Others will have one final card to play. And for those who couldn’t care less about standings, points and seconds, the most important thing remains — one last chance this year to reunite with their tribe and run wild in Mūsmežs!
The ambassador for this stage, President of the Latvian Biathlon Federation Viesturs Dumpis, knows a little more about pursuit racing than the average Stirnu buks:
“Here in Priekuļi, we know all about the pursuit. In biathlon, it’s simple — the one in front has to run, while the one behind has to chase! Priekuļi is the perfect setting for the Stirnu buks Grand Finale: the terrain never lets you relax, and October usually adds a few challenges of its own. Some will have to defend what they have earned over the season; others will have to catch those ahead.
See you in Priekuļi — and then we’ll find out who catches whom!”
So this time, there’s no saying, “There’s always the next stage!”
There is no next stage.
There is Priekuļi.
There is October.
There is one final start.
And there is one more chance to be a Stirnu buks this year. See you at the Grand Finale!
