About Zilie kalni

Zilie kalni is part of the Ogre–Lielie Kangari esker ridge, known for its distinctive terrain and located within Ogre Municipality.

Since 2004, the Ogres Zilie kalni Nature Park has been a specially protected nature area covering 312 hectares. Most of the park is covered by coniferous forests growing on eskers — long, ridge-shaped chains of hills that form part of the Lielie Kangari ridge system.

The area is home to a variety of valuable flora and fauna, including 18 protected plant species, six protected bird species and several protected insect species.

It is believed that, in ancient times, a Livonian hillfort stood in the Zilie kalni area.

The park features walking and educational trails, cycling routes and cross-country skiing tracks. During snow-free periods, these routes are also available to Nordic walkers, cyclists and other outdoor enthusiasts.

The Dubkalni Reservoir, located within the park, is known for its exceptionally clean, clear water, with several recreation areas along its shores.

In 2013, the park opened a 30-meter-high observation tower.
