Roe bucks set for a run around Riekstukalns on May 21st

Trail run series “Gjensidige Roebuck 2021/22.” is fast approaching the finish of its season, despite next Saturday’s “Riekstukalns Roebuck” being only the second race of this year. Yes, it is true that the restrictions for C-19 have mixed up the cards quite a lot for the organizers of the trail run series, so we will add three extra stages to the last season’s four, so that on June 18th you finish the run with the greatest honor in the highest part of Latvia – Vestiena hills, near Gaiziņkalns!

Whoever raises the champion’s cup in “Garmin Lynx”, “VENDEN Roebuck” or “Husqvarna Bunny” – the main distances of the series, will be mostly decided in the Riekstukalns race! Remember that, considering the turmoil after C-19, the sum of the 4 best results will be added up in the overall score instead of the regular 5!

Members of the “SCOTT Running Latvija” team have taken care of all our nerves and created intrigue in the “Green Motors | ŠKODA” team overall rating by losing 2 positions in the previous race thus getting overtaken by teams “Pulsometrs.lv” and “Patria Sportland”. In the remaining stages, the fight promises to be especially hot, taking into account that both teams “Rieksti” and “Vāveres” will try to enter the top three in the same-named distance, while currently ranking fourth and fifth in the overall standings of the season!

We know, we know, that this week everyone will be busy running the “Rimi Riga Marathon” but remember that the reasonable registration price will change at night to Monday, so register for the race “Riekstukalns Roebuck” in time (until 15.5, including!)!

What to see and why run in Baldone?

The active recreation complex “Riekstukalns” has something to do both in summer and winter. In addition, near it, in Baldone and Ķekava, there are various natural and cultural-historical attractions that are worth visiting. If you decide to come to the sixth stage of the trail race series “Gjensidige Roebuck” on May 21st, why not combine active time with sightseeing?

Season’s ending soon – long live the next season!

The seven-stage season of 2021./2022. trail race series “Gjensidige Roebuck” will end on June 18th in Gaiziņkalns. After thinking long and hard on what to do with the remaining 3 Extra stages of this season and the 6 stages of next year, considering the yet unknown conditions, a DECISION was made to announce a 9-stage-superseries of 2022./2023, which would include the 3 summer-autumn stages of this year – 13.08. (Strīķupe Roebuck in Cēsis region), 10.09. (Tērvete Nature Park Stirnu buck in Dobele region), 01.10. (Ķemeri National Park / Smārde Stirnu buck in Tukums region) + the 6 stages of next season!

The 6 best results will be taken into consideration in the individual overall rating! The calculation of the teams’ overall rating remains the same!

On August 13th, the strongest roe bucks shall hop in the distance “Garmin Fēnix Wolf”

For the third year in a row, the usual distance “Garmin Lynx” in the series “Roebuck” is replaced once a year by the ultra-long trail race “Enter Gauja Trail 2022″ or the distance “Garmin Fēnix Wolf”. On the very morning of August 13th, the strongest and hardiest participants of the trail running series “Gjensidige Roebuck” will gather on the starting line in Līgatne to, later on, join the other participants of the trail race “Strīķupes Roebuck” after covering a distance of around 75 km. The Strīķupe trail promises not only steep shores, deep ravines, and a charming spruce forest, but also the amber tributary of the right bank of the river Gauja.

It should be noted that this year, too, the Latvian championship medals in the ultra-long trail races will be won in this distance. But the track itself, which will stretch along the usual Gaujamala trails, is certified by the International Trail Runners Association (ITRA). Everyone who finishes, in addition to the usual “Wolf” medal, will also receive 3 points, which is important for the international rating to participate in trail running competitions outside Latvia.

Winners of previous Enter Gauja Trail races::

In 2020 (71 km) – Artūrs Vadzis and Anete Švilpe

In 2021 (83 km) – Gvido Kalniņš and Ilze Limanāne

Latvian Trail Running Cup 2022

This year, the “Latvian Trail Running Cup 2022″ is renewed, which combines the four most important domestic trail races:

Latvian Trail Race  (LTR) – May 28th/29th;

Werewolf Marathon (VM) – July 9th;

Enter Gauja Trail 2022 distance “Garmin Fēnix Wolf” – August 13th;

Sigulda Mountain Marathon (SKM) – September 24th.

The winners of all stages will have the right to represent Latvia in the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WC), which is planned for the beginning of June in the mountains of Austria in Innsbruck.

This year’s winners of the “Latvia Trail Race” and “Werewolf Marathon” will qualify for the start of the 40-kilometer distance, regardless of the ITRA rating points, notwithstanding the success of the last three years on ITRA certified tracks.

The rest of the Latvian national team will be recruited according to the ITRA rating, similarly to previous years. We are welcome to visit the Tyrolean Alps! However, let’s not forget that at the beginning of November this year, in exotic Thailand, participants from the postponed 2021 World championship will be competing.
