New distances also for hikers WITHOUT time control

Text: Stirnubuks.lv

Yes, we do know that classic marathon runners can be quite arrogant towards trail runners who are not so quick, as they are told to be just strolling in the forest instead of running, and trail runners look with suspicion on hikers because they are just forest tourists! Of course, this is quite an overstatement and we, a large majority of  Roe bucks are not like this, are we? By organizing the annual #BeActive hikes within European Sports Week, we have understood that hikers are no less organized and active compared to trail runners and they are prepared to walk long distances during the day! A majority of them enjoy a trail as they walk and are definitely against competing by using timing devices! Is that the reason why they cannot belong to our community in Our Forest?

This year, within the trail run series “Gjensidige Roe Buck 2023″ hikers will be offered 2 new routes WITHOUT timing – “VIVACOLOR Hare” (11-15km) and “VENDEN Roe Buck” (18-25km). Hikers will be among the first ones to start to avoid meeting the crowds of trail runners on the course. Also, hikers will receive commemorative medals and snacks from our partners at the finish! Also, every participant of this course will participate in the lottery of valuable prizes which usually takes place after the awards ceremony!

What good things happen when you walk fast? [source: santa.lv]

    • The large body muscles work, blood circulation improves, and the body benefits from more oxygen.
    • Walking helps to breathe – improves its rhythm, volume, and depth. As walking time gets longer, also when walking at a very high speed, there is no pain in the side, and there is no punching feeling under the ribs.
    • Walking develops muscle coordination, the feeling of balance, as it makes one collect the body – it is necessary to step on the side, to step down, to turn, to jump over something.
    • Walking along a natural terrain, walking up and down a hill, and overcoming obstacles will provide even more benefits. Aerobic load is supplemented by coordination training and some strength training, there is an additional load for lower leg muscles and feet.
    • Fast walking is equal to low-intensity cardio exercise, still, the gain depends on the quality of functioning of the cardiovascular and breathing systems.
    • The human body functions by responding to demand – if you are passive and the body systems are not employed, the breathing volume, and oxygen consumption decreases and the heart becomes weaker over time, meaning that there is no functional loading for the most important systems. However, fast walking can help to improve all this again.

Well – invite your mum, dad, and friends who are not runners, and let’s hit the trails!

The season-opening stage of the trail run series “Gjensidige Roe Buck 2023″ is on March 25!
